SAE Tour

The rocket has flown more than fify times.

Mojave Spaceport July 31, 2010
Recently Sumdangdik participated in a tour of Masten Space Systems at Mojave Spaceport. The tour was sponsored by the Southern California section of SAE. One interesting item on the tour was a photo opportunity with an actual rocket that was hand built by a very small team of engineers and interns. See a bunch more pictures on www.masten-space.com.

We are told that this particular rocket has flown and landed more than fifty times. It doesn’t have any parachute, it simply flies around and lands. If you visit Mojave (pronounced moe ha vee) you may not be able to visit Masten Space Systems but there is a nice park nearby that has other privately-built rockets on public display. One of them is the Rotary Rocket. Does anybody remember the Rotary Rocket ? The large round item on the rocket is a window into a cockpit that has seats and rocket controls. Whomsoever has actually flown this rocket?

Someone actually flew the Rotary Rocket according to an excellent plaque located near the rocket. It reads in part, First Rocket Powered Vehicle To Fly At Mojave Spaceport 1999 A.D. Then a quote on the plaque indicates that people with timid spirits will neither enjoy nor suffer as much as the rest of us.
