My Road Trip

I have recently visited Maine on a road trip.
The last leg of my airplane ride was in a small two engine airplane.
I was proud to see that the pilot and copilot were both women.
There aren't enough female pilots in the world.
After the plane ride there was a long drive North.
Technically the season is Autumn so I was expecting a little cold.
                                                   Good morning!

This rental car turned out to be a good car.
Car stayed on the road and didn't get stuch in a parking lot,
which is impressive given the road conditions.
The car is a nice blue color though hidden beneath a pile of snow,
                                                       it is a Buick Verano.

Next morning, car was covered in ice instead of snow.
Gasoline prices are about the same, there or here.

For awhile I had the interstate highway all to myself.
As I proceeded south, frozen rivers and ponds gave way to open water.

After another short ride in the tiny airplane
and a long ride in the big airplane
I finally arrived at home to find this spider in my kitchen.

My Lamp

I have a hanging lamp in the living room of my house.
The lamp looks OK from a grownup point of view.
If the viewer is tall, the lamp looks fine.

However, a little kid on the floor can look up and see the bare lamp bulb.

The bare bulb throws a lot of glare when the lamp is turned on.
To remedy the situation I added a lens bowl from another lamp.
I drilled three, one-eighth inch holes equally spaced
around the rim of the lens bowl.

The lens bowl is threaded with some wire that has high temperature insulation.

These three wires will support the hanging lamp bowl.

The hanging lamp has some vents for cooling.
The three wires are bent into the shape of hooks,
                                                   threaded through the cooling vents,
and bent into place to support the added lamp bowl.

The resulting lamp is much better.

The light quality lights up the darkness well, too.

My Scenery

Scenery doesn't look like much because of the drought.
Drab browns and grays are the palette colors instead of green.

The pile of dirt with a tractor on top is new.

Compare that picture with this one and see how much they can do in a week.
This picture is from one week later.

My Candy

                                                     This candy is good.
You probably can't find any of these where you are.

My Start Screen

This page will be my new start screen. Has text only. Pictures take forever to load during start up.

                                                                           Have to fix it myself.

My Clothes Dryer

My clothes dryer has been "marking" my clothes.
The problem has been getting worse lately.

I decided to disassemble the clothes dryer to see
what the problem was, and
if it could be repaired.

I found some buttons.
Lots of buttons.
That explains where my buttons have been going.

Next I found ten years worth of lint.
The clothes dryer will probably work a lot better
Without this brick of lint clogging up the air flow.

What could have sheared off all these buttons?
Perhaps it was the edge of this big hole.

I had found this weird item in the laundry some time ago.
More than a year ago.
At the time I had no idea of:
What this item was,
Where it had come from, and
Why it magically appeared in my laundry.

It certainly is lucky that I didn't throw this thing away
Even though I didn't know what it was.
I tend to save things like that,
in case I might be able to solve the mystery later on.

It fits perfectly in the hole!
Mystery solved.
Clothes dryer repaired.

My Dirty Job

The city father have decided to leave the
street sweeping duties to the local
                                                        homeowner
                                               because of budget constraints
so take a little pride in your neighborhood.

                                                I know it's a dirty job

                                                Someone has to do it!

                                               Whoa oh ohoh oh!

                                                          I did my civic duty.
Now I have a few blisters.  Need a better broom.
                                                 Something with a bigger handle.
                                                            This one is too small.

Lost And Found

I have been finding some unusual items on the sidwalk lately:
A sheared-off bolt which is rather large,
and a few smaller nuts which might have fit the small bolt
                                                          once upon a time.
A sunglass lens which was in the street, though not broken.
                                                  A control switch legend tag.
                                                     The innards of a PDA.
And an item which I would call a carabiner for chains.
